Make-up Tips: Concealer

Hello, hello, helloo! How are you? I hope you're well.

Round No. 2 of the "Make-up Tips" series and today I try to tell you everything important about concealer that I know.

What do you need concealer for?

Concealers are commonly used to cover up any imperfections that are going on in ones face, for example dark under-eye circles or spots, since they have higher coverage than the normal foundation. However you can also use them to brighten up and highlight certain areas.

How do you find the right concealer?

First of all, you need to think about what you want to achieve with your concealer. If you want to cover spots, a concealer in the same colour like your foundation would be perfect. If you want to cover dark under-eye circles and highlight under your eyes (that makes you look much more awake), a slightly lighter concealer works really well.
To find the right colour you simply put a little bit of the tester instore on the back of your hand and hold it next to your face to compare it with your skin tone. (There are also colour correcting concealers available but this is a whole other story, so I will probably write a post just about this topic) ;)

Which different concealer types are available?

There are so many different kinds of concealer available nowadays. I have listed the most known for you.

The foundation-like concealer: It looks like a thicker foundation. Most of the times it comes in a round tube with an applicator that looks like a lipgloss applicator.
The Cream-to-Powder Concealer: These concealers come usually in little pots. When you take them on your finger they feel creamy but once you apply them, they turn into a powder.
The Stick Concealer: Basically like a blemish stick.
The Highlighting Concealer: Highlighting concealers don’t really have the high coverage like normal concealers but they have light reflecting particles in them which help to draw attention to areas where they're applied.

What are the ways to apply concealer?

You can, for example, apply concealer with a concealer brush, a make-up sponge or with your fingers. Please, never apply concealer with the applicator of the product directly on spots. It is better to first put something on your hand and then apply it because with this technique you won’t get any bacteria into the product. Be also careful that you don’t press it too hard onto the under-eye area since this part of the face is really sensitive and tends to develop wrinkles a lot quicker. So if you use your fingers, use the ring finger since it is weaker and thus more gentle than the other fingers.

I hope you're having an amazing weekend! See you, xx
