Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder // REVIEW

Hourglass was always a brand that i really wanted to come to Germany, since so many people talk about their products. I basically only ever hear good things about their products and I am so happy that Sephora and Douglas finally stock them here in Germany. So the time has come, here is my first Hourglass review!

I was contemplating for quite some time what I want to purchase first, since their products are quite expensive. I knew that I definitely wanted to try one of their powder products, since they are famous for their face powders, blushes and highlighters. In the end, I decided to go for one of their highlighters.

I bought the "Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder". As always, let's start with the packaging. I mean it definitely looks stunning. It's really sleek and expensive looking. The compact is completely silver, it has the Hourglass lettering on the outside and it also has a mirror, which has a really nice size. I love the minimalistic style. Unfortunately, because the compact has a shiny silver outside, there are always fingerprints on it, which honestly annoys me a little bit, because I'm constantly cleaning them off. Furthermore, I would have expected the compact to be a little heavier since it is an expensive product. When you're holding it looks expensive, however, it feels quite cheap as it is so lightweight.

The powder is extremely finely milled and thus really soft. However, at first I was disappointed with the finish of the highlighter. I never had the opportunity to swatch any Hourglass highlighters, so I had to trust the reviews I read online. When I heard the name "Ambient Strobe Lighting", I expected a more intense highlighter. This one, however, is extremely subtle and with that I mean "barely there". So I was kind of disappointed because of the name since it didn't fulfill the expectation that the name, in my opinion, implies. Anyway, I got used to it and now I use it every time I'm doing more natural makeup looks. I have the colour "Incandescent Strobe Light" and it's a light champagne shade. Of course you can apply it with a brush, but if you want to increase the intensity a bit, you can use a wet brush. I also often apply a cream highlighter underneath so that the highlighter something to stick to. I usually looks really pretty layered with other highlighters.
There is supposed to be a swatch of the highlighter on my hand, but since it is so subtle one can barely see it...

All in all, this highlighter is really nice if you prefer the subtle highlighter look. The good quality is also noticeable since the powder is so fine. However, if you love a strong highlighter, I recommend going for something else. I will not buy another colour and probably not buy it again after it runs out since I personally like highlighters with more intensity.

Have you tried the Hourglass highlighters before? What's your opinion about them? Let me know. :)

I hope you're having an amazing day! xx
