Rodial Glass Powder // REVIEW

When I started with make-up, everything was new and exciting. There were so many products to discover, and brands were launching innovations regularly. I remember how excited I was when drugstore brands were selling eyeshadow palettes for the first time.

However, my obsession with make-up has ceased over the past few years. This is on the one hand a result of not having to leave the house as much and wearing masks, on the other hand there were not as many exciting launches recently. I feel like I have seen everything and tested a lot of it. Nonetheless, I was very intrigued when I saw Lydia Millen test a new powder on her Instagram that seemed to completely erase her pores. It looked like she was applying a filter directly on her face.

The powder she was using was the “Glass Powder” from Rodial. This was the first time in ages that I got really excited about a product. I have always had quite obvious pores around my nose, and I tried so many products to get rid of them, but pore-minimising creams and serums just do not seem to work for me. I also tried a few primers that can visually reduce pores, however, I never stuck with them, because it was yet again another time-consuming step in my make-up routine. So, the prospect of having a powder that could help with the appearance of my pores, was really exciting to me, since I am using powder everyday anyway. I love a good multi-purpose product because when I have to get up early in the morning, I like to keep it quick and simple.

Anyways, the moral of the story is that I bought this powder and let me tell you: It was not easy to get my hands on it. It was sold out in so many places and some did not even sell it. So, the hype is real although it has a hefty price tag. This powder costs about 50€, which means that my expectations were high.

Let’s talk about the packaging first. Since it is a loose powder, it comes in a small pot. There are 18g of translucent powder in there, which should last you some time if it is solely applied to the “problem” areas (Of course, pores are not problematic at all. They are completely normal and human.). The black and silver design of the pot is characteristically Rodial with a lid in leather optic and a big silver “R” on it. However, as luxurious as it looks, it is fully plastic, which disappointed me a little bit. If the powder performs well, packaging does not matter much, though.

But what does the powder even promise? On the Rodial website it says that through the innovation of glass-microspheres (meaning microscopically small glass beads) the powder diminishes the appearance of imperfections by scattering ambient light across the skin. Furthermore, the Glass Powder is supposed to be weightless and effective at mattifying the skin, whilst still maintaining the skin’s natural glow.

I have used this powder a few times now and I must say I am impressed. It is extremely finely milled and feels very light on the skin. Of course, you cannot expect a powder to make pores disappear completely, but it does visibly smooth the skin. My pores are still there after applying it and you can definitely still see them when you get closer, but from normal talking distance my skin appears even and pore-free. Even my boyfriend noticed the change when I first used the Glass Powder and that says something. It also works well at mattifying the T-zone and it lasts quite well throughout the day. Touching up is also not a problem.

So, is the Glass Powder worth 50€? Probably not. There are products that have similar effects for much cheaper, like pore-minimising primers. However, I do appreciate the innovation and as far as I know there are no powders out there that would be comparable. It does give me a confidence boost as my pores always annoyed me. I have been using the Glass Powder every time since I got it and I do not regret my purchase.

I hope you're having an amazing day! See you online, xx
