I buy a lot of makeup and I recently started to get more and more into the expensive and higher end brands. Of course there are a few things that you may have to consider if you don't buy expensive makeup on a regular basis. Here are a few of these:
ALWAYS read reviews about the product you want to buy!
This is so important. When I find something I think is nice, I always read as many reviews of the product as I can, since I want to make sure that I'll love it. Wasting a lot of money on something you don't like in the end is the worst, since you can't just bring it back to the shop if you used it.
Try to look at the product in a shop.
If you are not sure, how the product looks swatched, definitely go and look at it in a shop, since this will give you the safety that you'll like it. If there is now possibility of looking at it yourself, try to find swatches on the internet that look well photographed.
Think about the longevity of a product.
If you buy an expensive makeup item, you want it to last as long as possible. Cream products such as lipsticks, mascara or cream blush etc. generally don't last as long as powders. When I thought about buying the Champagne Pop highlighter from Becca, I intentionally chose the powder version, since this will last me for much longer. I know that there are no powder versions of lipstick or mascara. In this case you have know if you'll use a lot.
Another point would be how much product you get. I always look at this when I'm buying powders, since I want to make sure that my money is well spend.
Use vouchers, discount codes or sign up for a loyalty card in your favourite cosmetics department.
I always use vouchers and discount codes when I buy expensive makeup, since it does make a huge difference. Furthermore I also have a loyalty card of my favourite makeup store, so I always now what is on offer at the moment and I also get special discounts.
Last but not least: Think about it!
Never buy something in a rush, since you will regret it most of the time. You have to really think about it, and if you are still convinced that you need it after a week or so, you know that you can buy it.
I hope this post was helpful. Which was the first expensive makeup item that you bought? Let me know. :)
I hope you'll have an amazing start to the week! See you, xx
