Essie Expressie // REVIEW

I have been a huge Essie fan for so, so long and I really enjoy having painted nails. The only thing that always bothered me about it was the extremely long time it takes to do it. I probably need about half an hour for applying several coats of polish and letting it dry in between coats. Also, most of us probably know the feeling of having freshly painted nails and trying not to touch too much afterwards, since it doesn't feel entirely dry for at least an hour.

I was very happy when I found out that Essie is now doing quick dry polishes since it promised to make painting your nails much quicker and thus easier to integrate into a busy schedule. Thereby, I also had really high expectations. In this post I would like to share with you my experiences using the new Essie quick dry formulas.

First of all, the new quick dry polishes do not differ in price compared to Essie's classic collection. However, the size of the bottles are different. You don't get as much product in the quick dry nail polish bottles as in the classic ones. A plus point is that Essie has launched a wide range of shades. This made deciding which colour to go for quite difficult. In the end I went for the colour "260 Breaking the Bold", which is a dark metallic red and especially perfect for the festive season.

Applying the nail polish was as easy as always since the brush has a good size. The red needs about two to three coats to achieve an opaque finish, which is a normal amount, in my opinion. Most Essie polishes need about two coats. The polishes definitely were really quick to dry. After I had applied the first coat on both of my hands I could immediately continue with the second coat. The shade is really pretty and true to colour compared the way it looks in the bottle. I think this particular colour is perfect for every skin tone and not too bold to wear since it is a classic red with a bit of metallic sparkle.

Let's get to the point that disappointed me massively about this polish. It literally chipped after two days which is quite unusual for Essie polishes. Usually they are very long-lasting. Furthermore, the nail polish started to peel off of one nail after about three days. This has only happened with one other Essie polish before which was the slightly holographic shade "Semi-precious tones". I also recommend wearing the polish with a base coat since the red can stain your nails after some time of wearing it.

I really hope that this issue only concerns this particular shade of the Expressie range and not the entire collection. I am not sure if I will buy another one these polishes because I simply don't know if it is worth it. For me it really depends on the colours they will launch in the future.

On another note... This has nothing to do with Essie nail polishes but with drugstore nail polish brands in general. I am so bored of the nail polishes that are being offered in drugstores. There are rarely exciting launches and, in my opinion, the brands have been playing it safe for a while by mostly launching basic creme polishes (in Germany at least). Where are the holographic polishes that are so hyped on the internet, especially after the launch of Simply Nailogicals brand "Holo Taco"? They offer so many beautiful holographic nail polishes for an affordable price. Unfortunately, the shipping costs from Canada/America are horrendous, so I couldn't get my hands on them, yet. Why can't drugstore brands do similar polishes? I know that more glittery/out there shades are more expensive to produce and probably more difficult to sell, but surely there are people who crave more exciting nail polishes just like me. Hopefully the collections will change over time, same as the drugstore makeup got more exciting over the last five years.

I hope you're having an amazing day! See you online, xx
